Free School Meals for All Campaign (FSM4A)

It has been a momentous day today. The children of Phoenix Primary School have had their voices heard loud and clear.

Not just locally, but nationwide! The BBC visited today, filming the campaign for BBC North West, so watch out for us on television this evening or later this week. Radio Merseyside have also done a piece so listen out!

The FSM4A battle bus was parked on our school yard and the children visited it, displaying their banners and chanting 'Sir Keir Starmer hear our prayer - show you care and make it fair - free school meals for all!'

Tomorrow the campaign continues with our visit to the Labour Party Conference to leaflet MPs, and maybe even the PM himself! A big thank you to the children, and the parents and carers of children who will be attending, as a I know it is such an early start. Thanks again to Mrs Evans for organising the event, and for sharing her passion for ensuring equality for all children.

Cross Country and Football

Well done to our cross country team (Karl, Ritaj, Rose, Emmanuel, Mohammed, Rafael, Sophia, Lucy and Naomi) who attended their first event last week, and our new boy’s Phoenix football team (Karl, Yousif, Mouhamadou, Emmanuel, Rafael, Isaac, Jassar, Kai, Lucas).

I know Mr Kelly was extremely proud of you all. You represented our school brilliantly and showed excellent resilience! A girls’ football team is coming soon! Thanks Mr Kelly ☺️.

Autumn Swap Shop

Our next Swap Shop is to be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 2nd October. Please bring in the usual (children’s clothes, coats, shoes, accessories) plus the children have requested that as well as books, they would like to swap toys, so it would be great if you could look through what you have and decide what items you are happy to donate.

Please note, any toys or games must be in good condition and have all of the parts, and any clothing must be clean and in good condition. Please bring donations at drop off or pick up time from this Thursday onwards (26th).

PTA

If you have time to spare and would like to be more involved with school, your support would be much appreciated preparing for this event. If you are interested, please come along to our PTA meeting on Monday 30th September. This will be our first one, and as well as planning the year ahead, we can also prepare for the Swap Shop.

Maths Party Day - Don’t forget, this Friday 27th is Maths Party Day. Children may come to school wearing number or maths-related clothes/ accessories. School uniform can still be worn. At Phoenix, we really want to get the message across to all children (and some adults!) that maths is a fascinating subject, that should be celebrated, not feared.  There will be fun maths activities during the day, which I hope will be enjoyed by all. Thank you to Miss Ainsworth for organising the day.

Attendance

I cannot stress enough, the importance of good attendance and punctuality. I know so many of you agree, and are trying really hard to get doctors and dentist appointments outside of school hours. This is very much appreciated.

Every minute, hour, day, week of missed school has a long-reaching, negative impact on children’s futures, so it is vital that non- attendance is kept to an absolute minimum.

The government recognise the damage being done when children go on holiday in term time. To try and deter this, they have increased the fines to £80 per child per parent per holiday. They are bringing in further changes, whereby a family who are on their third fine will be prosecuted, which could lead to sentencing.

Well done to all of our children who have 100% attendance so far this year. Based on recommendations from government, our aim now is for no child to have less than 97%. As ever, we will be celebrating good attendance each week in assembly and those with 97% or above are in with a chance if winning prizes.
