Anti Bullying at Phoenix!
On Wednesday, a group of children took part in the Antibullying Schools Project 2024.
Phoenix and lots of other schools from across the country came together to perform four songs in sign language! These songs were in honour of Remembrance Day (Rise like a phoenix, Power in me and This is me). We travelled to St George’s Hall in Liverpool and even got a certificate from John Bishop – famous Scouse comedian - for taking part! Well done and thank you to all involved!
Dear Parents/ Carers,
It has been a busy start to the second half of Autumn Term at Phoenix! Last Monday we had our Sparkles and Spells Discos, which were a great success. Huge thanks to our parent and grandparent helpers for the time, effort, and care you put into making sure the children had a wonderful time – which they did! 😊 We could not have done it without you. And – between the selling of food on parents evening, and the disco tickets, we have raised £………. which will go towards transport for the Chester Zoo trip, on 27th February.
Our already growing PTA met again on Friday and are eagerly planning the next fundraising event for December. Watch this space!
Diwali Celebrations
A massive thank you to our Reception ‘Butterflies’ for their gorgeous performance on Friday, to celebrate Diwali. They danced, sang, and shared lots of interesting facts they had learnt about the Sikh and Hindu Festival of Light. You would never have guessed it was their first time in assembly! Wow – well done children and all of the Early Years Team! 😊
Sports Report
Well done to our Year 6 Girls’ Football Team – you are brilliant! They played at Lister Juniors on Friday and really did Phoenix proud. Thanks to Mr Kelly and Mr Rubio for enabling this event.
Music Report
The new Phoenix Choir Club got off to a great start on Thursday. What an amazing group of singers they are, from Years 3 to 6. They absolutely smashed an Oasis song, in just one session! (Not that many of them had heard of Oasis! 😂) We will be learning Christmas songs soon so that we can bring festive cheer to our local community. We are hoping to sing at a care home, and possibly at some local shops too.
Saying Goodbye
It is with mixed emotions that I share with you the news that three of our treasured teachers will be leaving us at the end of this term: Mrs Evans, Miss Mills and Mrs Christopher.
Mrs Evans has been at Phoenix since its birth, and with Birchfield School before that. After 33 years of dedicated practice, she is hanging up her hat, and retiring so she can spend time with family, and maybe have a rest!
Miss Mills, our wonderful SENDCo, has spent over 20 years teaching and nurturing children at Phoenix, and is going on to help lots more children in her new role as Specialist Teacher for Autism and SEN for St. Helens Borough Council.
Mrs Christopher – after starting as a volunteer at Phoenix, and working her way up to Early Years Lead, and Interim Assistant Headteacher – is moving on to lead an even bigger Early Years department in Middlefield Primary School in Speke.
All three teachers have given so much to Phoenix, and have helped shape it into the wonderful school it is now - and helped shape hundreds of little lives 😊. We are going to enjoy our final half term with them and celebrate their time at Phoenix, and wish them the best of luck in the next exciting part of their life journeys!
We will keep you updated about who will be taking over from them in January.
